What Is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) — also called an IRA Charitable Rollover — lets IRA owners age 70½ or older transfer money directly from their IRA to a qualified nonprofit like cureCADASIL, completely tax-free. It is one of the most powerful charitable giving strategies available to retirees.

💰
Reduce Your Taxable Income
The QCD amount is excluded from your gross income — even if you take the standard deduction. No itemizing required.
📋
Satisfies Your RMD
Beginning at age 73, IRA owners must take Required Minimum Distributions. A QCD counts toward your RMD for the year.
📉
May Lower Medicare Premiums
Because QCDs reduce your adjusted gross income, they can help you avoid Medicare Part B and Part D premium surcharges.
🎯
High Annual Limit
Up to $111,000 per person in 2026 (indexed for inflation). Married couples can each make a QCD from their own IRA.
✅ Do You Qualify?
  • You are age 70½ or older
  • You have a traditional IRA, inherited IRA, inactive SEP, or inactive SIMPLE IRA
  • The gift goes directly from your IRA custodian to cureCADASIL — you never touch the funds
  • cureCADASIL is a 501(c)(3) public charity — EIN: 45-5242623 — fully eligible to receive QCDs
⚠️ Important: QCDs cannot be made to Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) or private foundations — they must go directly to a qualified public charity like cureCADASIL. Always consult your tax advisor before making a QCD.

How to Make a QCD to cureCADASIL

Most major brokerages make QCDs straightforward. Contact your IRA custodian directly — whether that's Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard, Merrill, or any other provider — and request a Qualified Charitable Distribution to cureCADASIL. Here's what they'll need:

📋 cureCADASIL Gift Information
Organization: cureCADASIL (The CADASIL Association, Inc.) EIN / Tax ID: 45-5242623 Mailing Address: PO Box 390023, Edina, MN 55439 Status: 501(c)(3) public charity — QCD eligible
Three ways to complete your QCD:
1
Online or by phone through your brokerage
Log in to your IRA account or call your custodian. Request a QCD to cureCADASIL using the EIN and address above. Many brokerages (including Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard) let you do this entirely online.
2
Request a check made payable to cureCADASIL
Ask your custodian to issue a check payable to cureCADASIL (not to you). The check can be mailed to us directly or sent to you to forward — either way it qualifies as a QCD as long as it is made out to cureCADASIL.
3
Write a check if your IRA has check-writing privileges
Some IRAs include a checkbook. Simply write a check payable to cureCADASIL and mail it to our PO Box. This counts as a QCD as long as it comes directly from IRA funds.
📅 Deadline reminder: Your QCD must be completed and received by cureCADASIL by December 31 of the tax year for which you want it to count. Allow extra time for processing and mailing — don't wait until the last week of December.
